All academic documents (standard degree certificates, personal academic certificates and accreditation documents) submitted to the university should be official documents issued by the competent authority in the country of origin of the documents, and be legally binding.
On-paper or digital formats are accepted provided the documents are legally binding. Under no circumstances can we accept: simple copies, screen captures or downloads from online platforms, grade certificates or any other documents without academic validity.
General Information
Documents issued abroad should be submitted together with an official translation in Catalan, Spanish or English, if necessary. Official translations are available from:
A sworn translator duly authorised or registered in Spain.
A Spanish embassy or consulate abroad.
A foreign embassy or consulate in Spain o the nationality of the person concerned or the country of issue of the document in question.
An official translator abroad. In this case, the translator's signature should be duly legalised.
The following documents should be legalised:
Academic degree certificates.
A European Diploma Supplement or an academic certificate. This should include all subjects taken and passed, the number of hours or credits, and the corresponding grades. The grading system used should also be specified.
If necessary, further academic degree accreditation.
In order to legalise a document, bear in mind the place of issue, as procedures vary from country to country.

If a document is from a country that has signed the Hague Convention, it will suffice to add a single apostille or legalisation and signature, duly stamped by the authorities of the country where the document was issued. Consult the signatories to the Convention. The apostille must be stamped on the document before any certified copy is made. To do this, follow the steps below:
Due recognition or legalisation of signatures, carried out by the competent body, in most cases the Ministry of Education.
A subsequent apostille stamp on the same document. This should be carried out by the competent authority.
Documents should be legalised through diplomatic channels. The legalisation stamp should be on the document before any certified copies are made. Follow these steps:
Contact the Ministry of Education or the competent authority of the country of origin for degree certificates and go through the signature recognition process.
Then go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or the competent authority) of the country of issue of the documents to legalise them on the same document where the signature was recognised.
Finally, go to a Spanish embassy or consulate in the country of issue of the academic documents to obtain recognition of the signature legalised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (or competent authority).
In certain cases, it may be necessary for the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recognise the signature of the official of the Spanish consulate that has legalised the document. Contact: Legalisation section of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Calle Serrano Galvache, 26 - Madrid).
Legalisation of original academic documents for use abroad is a two-stage process: first, recognition of signatures by the Spanish Ministry of Education and, secondly, legalisation by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Documents submitted should be originals in Catalan or Spanish.
In addition, paper documents should have a handwritten signature and digital documents should have a secure verification code or digital signature, and an indication of the post and full name of the person signing the document.
Documents subject to signature recognition by the Ministry of Education:
Official university degree certificates, issued by the Rector of the University.
Official academic course certificates. (Enrolment certificates cannot be subject to signature recognition.)
