FIRST Tech Challenge: the new STEM programme for young people aged between 16 and 20 years old arrives in Spain

The Fundación Scientia, the University of Vic-Central University of Catalonia and the company Girbau have reached an agreement to organise the FIRST Tech Challenge programme for the next three years, to promote scientific and technological vocations among young people aged between 16 and 20 years old. This year, the qualifying tournament will be held at the American School of Barcelona (Esplugues de Llobregat) on 5 and 6 April, and will host around 16 teams from Spain and other European countries. The tournament will be held at UVic for the next two years.

Joan Masnou: "This year must be a turning point in the University's financing"

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) officially inaugurated the 2018-2019 academic year this afternoon, with a ceremony in the Aula Magna of the UVic Campus. The inauguration ceremony was chaired by the rector of the University, Joan Masnou, and those attending included the Secretary for Universities and Research, Francesc Xavier Grau, and the president of the FUBalmes and mayor of Vic, Anna Erra.

The call for selection of the UVic-UCC rector opens

The Balmes University Foundation has opened the call for the selection of the new rector for the 2018-2022 term. Candidates can apply for the position referring to the detailed profile on the UVic-UCC website, and they have from 1 September to 15 October to do so. After all the candidatures have been received, the committee will meet to select the candidates who will have to be assessed by the Executive Committee of the Balmes University Foundation.

The Senate supports the designation of Oriol Amat as a candadate for Rector of the UVic-UCC

78% of those attending with the right to vote at the meeting of the Senate of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) supported the government plan that the Professor of Economics and Accounting of Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the candidate for the UVic-UCC Vice Chancellor, Oriol Amat, presented at an extraordinary meeting that took place at noon last Thursday in the UVic's Aula Magna.   

The UVic-UCC will make Maria Teresa Codina, a cornerstone of the Catalan educational renewal movement, Doctor Honoris Causa

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia will award a Doctorate Honoris Causa to the teacher Maria Teresa Codina i Mir, at the proposal of the Faculty of Education, Translation and Human Sciences, on the fortieth anniversary of its foundation. Ms Codina, who is ninety-one years old, will be sponsored by the dean of the Faculty, Eduard Ramírez, and by the lecturer and ex-dean Joan Soler, who will deliver the Laudatio, in an investiture ceremony which will take place in the Aula Magna of the UVic at 6 pm on Tuesday 5 June.

UVic-UCC laments the imprisonment of members of the catalan government and parliament

The Rector’s Board of University of Vic – Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) and the Board of Trustees of the Balmes University Foundation regret the sentences dictated yesterday, Friday March 23, which has led to the imprisonment of ex-councillors Jordi Turull, Josep Rull, Dolors Bassa, Raül Romeva and the former president of the Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, as well as forcing the Secretary General of EsquerraRepublicana de Catalunya (ERC), Marta Rovira, to flee the country.

Announcement on International Women's Day

Thursday 8 March is International Women's Day, a day to call for real gender equality between men and women. A number of protests have been announced, on the university campus itself and in the city of Vic.

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) supports these demands and reaffirms its commitment to ending all forms of gender discrimination and, in particular, all forms of violence against women.
