Objectives
This course introduces students to the creation of three-dimensional models from scratch. The content includes both the creation of objects, as well as the creation of scenarios and characters. Knowledge and skills are provided to develop 3D environments that include geometry modeling and the treatment of materials, textures and scene lighting. Knowledge of object animation, how post-processing is done and how the final rendering of the scene is achieved is also acquired.
Learning outcomes
- Shows creative spatial vision skills for graphic and artistic expression.
- Correctly use digital tools to model and animate 3D environments.
- Moves with ease in virtual interaction contexts through the use of ICT.
Competencies
General skills
- Desire to take part in lifelong learning, innovate, create value and acquire new knowledge.
Specific skills
- Apply techniques and tools of artistic expression and graphic representation with creative spatial awareness through digital technology.
- Design, model and animate 2D and 3D characters and environments through the use of digital tools.
Basic skills
- Students can apply their knowledge to their work or vocation in a professional manner and have competencies typically demonstrated through drafting and defending arguments and solving problems in their field of study.
- Students can communicate information, ideas, problems and solutions to both specialists and non-specialists.
Core skills
- Display professional skills in complex multidisciplinary contexts, working in networked teams, whether face-to-face or online, through use of information and communication technology.
Content
- Introduction to 3D modeling
- 3D modeling techniques
- Materials and texturing
- Rendering techniques
- Introduction to animation
- Composition and post-processing
Evaluation
The subject is assessed continuously, mainly through face-to-face exercises and tutoring. The schedule of assignments is published in the Virtual Campus classroom.
The final evaluation is obtained from the weighted average of the different activities planned during the course, all of which are individual in nature. The weighting is as follows:
- Practical projects (50%; recoverable)
- Project 1. Modeling a 3D scene
- Project 2. Animation
- Project 3. Modeling a character
- Assessment test (20%; recoverable)
- Participation and monitoring (20%)
- Oral presentations (10%)
It is possible recover up to 40% of the subject during the reassessment period scheduled by the Faculty, through a specific test to allow recovery of part of the course. This test can only be taken to recover any of the practical projects or the evaluation test.
Methodology
The sessions are practical and dynamic, with exercises that take place inside and outside the classroom in which concepts and methods explained by teachers are applied.
On the other hand, the teaching staff monitors each practice as the course progresses.
