Chair in Palliative Care

The Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO) and UVic-UCC signed an agreement for collaboration in November 2012 to create the Chair UVIC/ICO/CCOMS in Palliative Care. The Chair became a branch of the QUALY Observatory (Observatori QUALY d’Atenció Pal·liativa), a centre collaborating with WHO for public programmes on palliative care for the ICO.

Objective

The main objective of the Chair is to create and communicate knowledge on palliative care, transfer this knowledge to care practices and improve the quality of care that organisations provide to people at advanced stages of illness. An additional objective is to collaborate with health and care services in the region to encourage research projects and initiatives and action plans to improve palliative care for people at advanced stages of illness in the areas around UVic-UCC.

Work style

Focused on improving comprehensive care for people in situations of vulnerability and at advanced stages of disease, our work style involves being effective, efficient, patient- and results-oriented, multidisciplinary and cooperative, using resources from the Osona region and developing synergic partnerships at a national and international level.

Teaching, applied research and innovation and knowledge transfer

The Chair includes activities in teaching, applied research and innovation and knowledge transfer:

The main teaching activity of the Chair are the ICO/UVIC/UB Master’s in Care Practice and Palliative Care and specific activities adapted to each person’s needs.

The applied research activities of the Chair are focused on aspects of care practice, ethics and organisation of palliative care, conducted through doctoral programmes and competitive projects.

The innovation and knowledge transfer activities of the Chair are carried out with supporting organisations and health and social services, and include the design, implementation and assessment of programmes and services.
