CESS
The Centre for Health and Social Care Research (CESS) is an interdisciplinary, cross-sectional and intersectoral element at University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia. We draw together and coordinate training, research and knowledge transfer in the areas of social, health and care services.
We aim to improve social welfare and quality of life by developing inter and intra-university cooperation projects and by consolidating ties with organisations and institutions involved at a local, national and international level.
Chairs, research groups and services linked to CESS
CESS coordinates the activities of the Bioethics Chair, Palliative Care Chair, Innovation and Management of Healthcare Chair, Social Services Chair, ICT Health Chair and the research groups in Food, Health and Welfare (GRASB), Sport and Physical Activity (GREAF), Mental Health and Social Innovation (SaMIS) and Methodology, Methods, Models and Health and Social Outcomes (M3O).
Two services linked to CESS are DIXIT Vic, Social Services Document Centre and SÍRIUS VIC, Centre for Personal Autonomy.
CESS makes its premises available to Amics de la Gent Gran d'Osona, thanks to an agreement signed with UVic-UCC. The association holds conferences and fosters voluntary work amongst members of the university community, particularly students.
The Chair in Bioethics Fundació Grífols was launched to generate, disseminate and transfer knowledge in different areas of bioethics and to examine in depth pressing ethical questions arising in the life and health sciences.
It is linked to Fundació Víctor Grífols i Lucas and UVic-UCC.
The Chair in Palliative Care aims to generate and disseminate knowledge on palliative care, transfer this knowledge to care practices and improve the quality of care that organisations give to people at advanced stages of disease from a local, community and public health perspective and by developing conceptual and methodological innovation.
An initiative of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO), UVic-UCC and a branch of Centre Qualy, a WHO collaborating centre for public health palliative care.
The Chair in Social Services aims to foster social promotion and quality of life for the citizens of Catalonia by maximising training, research and innovation in the area of social services in collaboration with different sectors of the Catalan System of Social Services.
It is an initiative of the Departament de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies and UVic-UCC.
The creation of the Chair in Innovation and Management of Health Services is a response to the readiness of academics to generate, implement knowledge and transform talent within the health sector.
The Chair in ICT and Health was created in December 2013, an initiative of Fundació TicSalut at UVic-UCC, with a view to providing a service and an example for ICT, health and social systems research.
DIXIT Vic is an exemplary document centre and support service for spreading knowledge on social services in the central Catalan area. It is managed by UVic-UCC and forms part of the network of DIXIT centres from Departament de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies (branches in Barcelona, Girona, Lleida and Tarragona), whose objective is to establish a common framework for promoting knowledge and creating channels of professional participation.
SÍRIUS Vic is a model centre aimed at promoting personal autonomy and improving accessibility and communication to foster social integration of people with functional diversity of all ages. It forms part of the network of centres for the promotion of personal autonomy and accessibility in the region and is backed by the Departament de Treball, Afers Socials i Famílies.

Mission
- To foster the generation, application and dissemination of knowledge related to health, care and social services.
- To promote development of projects and participation on a local, national and international scale which lead to an improvement in services provided by the Catalan System of Social Services.
- To support and promote all the health and social care activities at UVic-UCC.
