How to re-enter Spain from a country outside the Schengen area, while the stay permit is being extended or a new TIE is not yet available
Non-EU citizens who have left Spain to a country outside the Schengen area while they are requesting an extension of their stay permit or those do not yet have the new foreigner identity card (TIE) and want to re-enter Spain, must request a return permit.
(Article 5 of RD 557/20119)
Permit validity
- If requested prior to the expiry of the stay permit: less than 90 days from this expiry date.
- If requested at a time after expiry of the stay permit: less than 90 days from when it is granted.

In police stations of the National Police Force
Documentation to present
- EX13 form filled out and signed
- Passport + photocopy
- Foreigner identity card (TIE card) + photocopy
- Application for renewal of stay/residence + photocopy
- Printout of the plane ticket reservation (round trip) or justification of the trip
- Payment of the fee (bring the administration copy)
DIGITAL CERTIFICATE OR ELECTRONIC SIGNATURE
In order to submit applications electronically, a digital certificate or electronic signature is required.
It can be requested here..
It is not possible to obtain an electronic signature with an expired NIE or without a NIE. If this is the case, please contact us at icsupport@uvic.cat.
