The UVic-UCC will welcome Spain's leading figures in bioethics at an international congress in January

The Grífols Foundation Chair of Bioethics at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) will be organising its first International Bioethics Congress in the Aula Magna on the Vic campus on 24 and 25 January. This is the first time that an event of this type has brought together the most important figures in bioethics in Spain. The programme will also feature international speakers.

The Board of Trustees of the FUB designates Josep-Eladi Baños as candidate for the rector of the UVic-UCC

The Board of Trustees of the Balmes University Foundation (FUB) has designated Josep-Eladi Baños as a candidate for the position of rector of the UVic-UCC. At the plenary session that took place on Friday 30 November, the University's trustees selected Amat as a candidate to present his programme for government to the community at an extraordinary meeting of the Senate that will take place on 11 December. The candidate will submit his programme, and the Senate will vote on it and issue a non-binding report on its content.

The 'Storytelling revisited' conference addresses how innovative formats are used in storytelling

Around eighty people participated in the first Storytelling revisited conference on the use of children's literature in English language learning in the Segimon Serrallonga Hall at the UVic last Wednesday. The event, which featured several international speakers, gauged the current state of this discipline, and laid the foundations for upcoming research and for future editions of the conference, which was established with a view to taking place annually.

Storytelling is a constant feature in preprimary and primary education, where stories are used on a daily basis as a resource to achieve many goals, including learning the English language. It is precisely this use of children's literature when acquiring this additional language that will be the topic of the first Storytelling revisited international congress, organised by the UVic-UCC in the Segimon Serrallonga Hall on the Vic campus on 28 November.

A study by the Chair in Agroecology will identify Mediterranean extensive livestock farming’s strategies for adapting to climate change

Researchers from the Chair in Agroecology and Food Systems have begun a project to identify how people who work in extensive livestock farming in Spain are adapting to climate change. The initiative is being undertaken by the Chair's director, Marta Rivera, and the researchers Marina Di Masso, Elisa Oteros and Feliu López, as well as Elsa Valera, at the Center for Agro-food Economy and Development (CREDA-UPC-IRTA).

Researchers at the UVic-UCC publish a study that outlines and considers the future challenges for women entrepreneurs in Barcelona

Low confidence in their own abilities, a lack of shared responsibility in housekeeping and child-rearing tasks and a lack of support from the people around them are some of the factors that limit women when establishing their own business. Although the number of female entrepreneurs in Barcelona has increased in recent years, the percentage of female freelance workers is 39%, which is clearly lower than the number of men.

The number of new entrance registrations for official degrees at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC) has increased by 3% in the 2018-19 academic year, and the total number of students by 10%. This includes the bachelor's degree courses at the UVic, UManresa, official master's degrees and doctorates at the UVic-UCC, the Professional Campus, students on the blended learning Bachelor's Degree in Translation, Interpreting and Applied Languages and Speech Therapy offered jointly by the UVic and the UOC, and the BAU, EADA and ESERP affiliated centres.

The UVic-UCC will have a doctoral programme in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences

The University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia will have a new doctoral programme in Medicine and Biomedical Sciences starting next year. The University System of Catalonia Quality Agency has given the green light to the programme - the University's eighth. Registration for new entrance will begin in the next academic year, and a total of 15 places will be available in the first year and 20 in the second and subsequent years.

The photopharmacology symposium in Vic lays the foundations for the future application of drugs regulated by light in humans

The leading international figures in the photopharmacology field met last Thursday and Friday in Vic, at the second international symposium to be held on this emerging branch of science, which uses light to control the activity of medication.
