UNESCO Chair in Women, Development and Cultures

The UNESCO Chair in Women, Development and Cultures (shared with the University of Barcelona's Centre for Women and Literature) was created in January 2004.

Mission

The mission of the Chair revolves around studies of gender, development, cultural diversity and integration, to help promote the equality required to build fairer societies that are open to differences.

Areas of action

  • Participation in the interuniversity master's degree in Women, Gender and Citizenship.
  • Promotion of bachelor's degrees and postgraduate degree studies on gender and equality policies.
  • Promotion of interdisciplinary educational activities on gender studies, and raising awareness through seminars, symposiums, lecture series and exhibitions, among other events.
  • Development of research projects and placements in other cultures on gender and equality policies.
  • Contribution to dissemination of feminist theories and gender studies through publications (such as the Capsa de Pandora collection, published by Eumo Editorial).
  • Collaboration with other public and private university institutions, government and non-government organisations in projects on gender.

National and international actions

1. Academic exchanges

  • Teaching staff

Teaching staff from UVic-UCC may undertake placements in other universities and research centres, and teaching staff from other centres may come to UVic-UCC.

  • UVic-UCC students

Uvic-UCC students may undertake placements in other countries to develop cooperation projects aimed at strengthening equality policies in areas such as health, education and communication.

Placements must be at least one-month long.

To be eligible for a grant, a project must be submitted that has been approved by the Chair.

  • Students from other universities

Students from other universities may wish to come to UVic-UCC for a period of study or research.

They may be involved in actions to raise awareness and increase solidarity in our environment or that of women in developing countries through talks, exhibitions, publications and symposiums.

  • Agreement with the University of El Salvador (El Salvador).
  • Collaboration with the Laboratory of Public Policy, Rio de Janeiro State University (Brazil).
  • Collaboration with the Centre for Women's Studies, University of El Salvador.
  • Collaboration with the Association for Human Rights, Guatemala.
  • Collaboration with the Online University Museum of Education, UVic-UCC.
  • Collaboration with the Verdaguer Chair in Literary Studies, UVic-UCC.
