Students must obtain the authorisation or permission to stay/residence that best suits them depending on their situation or intention.

Internships Open/Close
Students who carry out an internship in Spain, regardless of the country of residence, except Spain
At UVic-UCC, we are not responsible for the visa application process of students who undertake an internship if they are already residing in Spain.
We recommend applying for a student or internship visa at the Spanish Embassy in the student's current country of residence.
IMPORTANT: we advise against entering Spain with a tourist visa, since once in Spain the process of legalising the stay for internships can be long, complicated and may even require the hiring of a private legal service.
Return permit Open/Close
How to re-enter Spain from a country outside the Schengen area, while the stay permit is being extended or a new TIE is not yet available
Non-EU citizens who have left Spain to a country outside the Schengen area while they are requesting an extension of their stay permit or those do not yet have the new foreigner identity card (TIE) and want to re-enter Spain, must request a return permit.
Permit validity
- If requested prior to the expiry of the stay permit: less than 90 days from this expiry date.
- If requested at a time after expiry of the stay permit: less than 90 days from when it is granted.
Where to apply
In police stations of the National Police Force
Documentation to present
- EX13 form filled out and signed
- Passport + photocopy
- Foreigner identity card (TIE card) + photocopy
- Application for renewal of stay/residence + photocopy

Work permit Open/Close
Can you work with a study stay permit?
Non-EU students who have a study stay permit can carry out work activities without the need for an additional permit as long as their study stay permit indicates that it authorises them to work.
This permit allows students to work up to 30 hours a week as long as it is compatible with undertaking their studies. Its expiry is subject to the end date of the contract and/or the expiry date of the TIE (foreigner identification card), although it is renewable.
Residence for job search Open/Close
What happens when you finish your studies?
The residence permit to search for employment/entrepreneurship (Job Seeking Visa) is authorisation to reside in Spain to look for a job that is appropriate to the field and level of studies of each person or to undertake an entrepreneurial project, once official higher level studies have been completed.
This is a non-lucrative residence permit, which means it does not allow work. Once a job has been found, the company must process the change from a job seeking visa to a work visa.
The maximum duration of the permit is up to 24 months, non-extendable, counting from the expiry of the previous study stay permit.
Application deadline: you can apply between 60 days before and 90 days after the expiry of the study stay permit.
