UVic-UCC will offer the first Degree in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy in Catalonia to train future technology-based entrepreneurs
The Faculty of Business and Communication Studies at UVic-UCC will be offering a new degree course in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy in the 2017-18 academic year. This is the first three-year degree course (180 credits) at Uvic-UCC, and it is expected to be taught at Can Muntanyola, UVic-UCC's campus in Granollers.
The degree course aims to train students to create technology-based start-ups, or to give them the necessary skills to join an established company that wants to focus its business on the digital sphere. The new degree course is aimed at a market that is strategic in terms of creating added value for the economy, because according to the Barcelona Tech City cluster, technology companies have a turnover of 6,000 million euros every year and provide 10,000 jobs in the Barcelona metropolitan area alone.
Using Problem-Based Learning methodology, teaching in the new degree will be concentrated in the first eight weeks of each semester, and the remaining weeks will be devoted to supervised group work in order for students to undertake an entrepreneurial project. The aim is for every student to complete the degree course with their own entrepreneurial project.
Some of the subjects on this degree course will be in English, including 25% of first-year subjects. Strategic immersion in innovative digital ecosystems will raise students’ awareness of the opportunities offered by new growth markets, and the opportunities created by social networks and mobile communications.
In addition to guiding students towards entrepreneurship, the new degree course also provides the tools to work in strategic consultancy, innovation management, marketing management 2.0, and information systems management, among other career opportunities.
The UVic-UCC Degree in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy will receive support and cooperation from the Barcelona Tech City cluster.
UVic-UCC: A methodology that places the student at the centre of the learning process
The Degree in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy will be taught at the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies at UVic-UCC, which has for some years been moving towards more collaborative forms of learning, in which students play a central role in their own learning process, through new technology and simulation activities. This methodology aims for students to develop skills in innovation, entrepreneurship, international activities, digitalisation, leadership and employability skills, which are those that are currently in demand from employers.
Moreover, the Faculty of Business and Communication Studies also offers its students the opportunity for mobility abroad, by undertaking courses or internships. In addition, starting this academic year, it is launching a course in advanced skills for professional development, which will be offered free of charge to students in the final year of their degree course, to help them improve their communication, leadership and entrepreneurship skills.
The Degree in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy is Just one of the UVic-UCC courses in the field of business studies, together with the degree courses in Business Administration and Management, Marketing and Business Communication, and Advertising and Public Relations.
