The SPRING network of researchers at UVic-UCC welcomes the FC Barcelona Documentation and Study Centre as a collaborating institution
The FC Barcelona Documentation and Studies Centre (CDiE) has become a collaborating institution in the Sport and Politics Research International Network (SPRING). The network is located at the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), and professors in the University's Faculty of Business and Communication Studies play an active role in its activities. This collaboration will provide researchers in the network with access to the contents of the CDiE's archive, and raise the profile of the CDiE among bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree students carrying out their academic research.
SPRING is a network of researchers and social scientists that has focused on examining the intersection between politics and sport since it was founded in 2021. It currently contains around eighty registered researchers working at various universities in Spain and other countries, and it has organised three scientific congresses. The most recent of these took place at the University of Malaga in February 2025, and involved fifty participants. The CDiE has worked with researchers in the network since 2022, and it was heavily involved in the researchers' editing and publication of the book FC Barcelona: History, Politics and Identity (Routledge, 2024).
The CDiE specialises in the history of FC Barcelona and sport, and its archives contain 1,300 titles on the subject of sport (750 mainly about topics related to FC Barcelona), 280 periodicals, around 10,000 files and 2.1 million photographs. It provides a comprehensive service to the Club's various departments and is open to researchers, students and the public.
With this partnership, the SPRING network and the CDiE reinforce their commitment to FC Barcelona as an internationally important object of study for all researchers and students working on the history, politics, communication and sociology of sport.
