The President of the Parliament of Catalonia Josep Rull visits the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia
The President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Josep Rull, visited the Rector's Office of the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia (UVic-UCC), at the Casa de Convalescència building in Vic this morning. His visit included a tour of the University, including the Paranymph and the Sala Gòtica hall.
He also signed the UVic-UCC book of honour, and subsequently met the rector of the University, Josep Eladi Baños; the president of the Balmes University Foundation and mayor of Vic, Albert Castells; the president of the Bages University Foundation, Marc Aloy; the president of the Foundation for Advanced Health Sciences, Josep Arimany, and the general manager of the Balmes University Foundation, Jordi Baiget.
Rull said that "UVic-UCC has become a leading teaching and research institution, and at the same time it has an outstanding capacity to put the country's territorial cohesion into effect." He said that the University has achieved this "because it is rooted in the territory, it understands its complexity and unique characteristics, and it has created a network within the framework of Central Catalonia."
The University's representatives expressed their desire for institutional recognition of its role as an agent for cohesion, which should be a matter of legal record and receive the appropriate funding. They also discussed the current situation at the institution, which has experienced significant growth in both its number of students and the range of programmes offered in recent years, as well as in the volume of research and knowledge transfer undertaken.
