Medicine, Automotive Engineering and Entrepreneurship in the Digital Economy - new UVic-UCC courses at the Saló de l’Ensenyament
UVic-UCC will be attending the Saló de l’Ensenyament education fair with three new degree courses for the next academic year: Medicine, Automotive Engineering and Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy, with the latter two taught in Granollers.
The Faculty of Medicine at UVic-UCC will focus on comprehensive and community training for doctors, one of the health areas with the highest demand, to meet the needs of the public. The syllabus incorporates innovative items from the pedagogical perspective, such as teaching based on resolving clinical cases, a focus on small groups, personalised teaching and internationalisation. The new faculty will be located in Vic and will have a teaching unit in Manresa. It will be private, self-funding and will have a system of grants to provide financial assistance for between 10% and 15% of the students, as well as an innovative loans system.
Last October, the Inter-University Board of Catalonia (CIC) approved the inclusion of UVic-UCC's bachelor's degree in Medicine in the programme for the 2017-2018 university year. The project is now awaiting validation of the curriculum from the University Quality Agency (AQU) and for the Ministry of Education to grant the 90 places requested.
UVic: Automotive Engineering and Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy
The other new course at the UVic Campus for the next academic year is the three-year degree in Entrepreneurship and the Digital Economy, which will be taught in Granollers. These studies will enable students to create technology-based companies, and will provide them with the skills necessary to join an established company that wants to refocus its business towards the digital sphere. The new degree course, which will be taught using PBL (Problem Based Learning) methodology, is supported by the Barcelona Tech cluster and Mobile World Capital Barcelona.
The final new course is the degree in Automotive Engineering, which will also be taught at Granollers and which has been developed in collaboration with the Automotive Industry Cluster of Catalonia (CIAC). With a dual theoretical and practical orientation, its curriculum includes a combination of teaching periods at the University with long workplace internships in the automotive industry. This degree aims to train highly qualified professionals in the field of automotive engineering, who are specialised while simultaneously having a comprehensive overview of the sector and its trends, with special emphasis on industry 4.0. The degree will enable students to be digital engineers with skills in electric vehicles, autonomous driving and collaborative robotics.
UVic will also be presenting the degree in Multimedia. Applications and Video Games with a completely updated curriculum, focusing on video games and mobile and website application development. Next year UVic will be offering a total of 25 bachelor's degrees and one combined degree.
UManresa: new blended degree in Speech Therapy
The main new course on the new UManresa campus is the blended learning degree course in Speech Therapy, leading to an inter-university degree from UVic-UCC and UOC. It will be taught in Catalan and Spanish, and will combine online teaching through the UOC virtual platform with face-to-face seminars at UManresa. The large amount of speech therapy that takes place at the University Clinic located on the campus means that students will come into contact with a large quantity and wide variety of voice, speech and language disorders. For the second consecutive year, it will also be offering the combined degree in Podiatry and Physiotherapy to enable students to obtain both qualifications in just five and a half years.
Meanwhile, the Early Childhood Education course will feature the added value of the Lab 0_6, a centre of discovery and research for scientific education for younger children. This is a dynamic feature of the course, which promotes meaningful learning for students by enabling them to design and evaluate their own scientific educational activities in a real educational environment, and apply the theory explained in the classroom in a practical educational way.
Students on the degree course in Business Administration and Management who received the grant-salary in companies will also be at the Saló de l’Ensenyament to discuss the advantages of taking these courses at UManresa. With the training track in two foreign languages, this is proving to be a exceptional means of access to the labour market.
Master's degrees and postgraduate studies
UVic-UCC will be presenting its range of master's degrees, postgraduate studies and continuing education at the Saló Futura show, including training in various knowledge areas, at both the UVic and UManresa campus and the BAU affiliated centre.
For next year, the UVic-UCC master's degree in Business Administration and Management (MBA) which is being offered for the third time, will have two options: the Vic-Manresa option, with 50% of the programme taught at the UVic campus and the other 50% at the UManresa campus; and the Granollers edition, taught entirely in Granollers.
The UVic-UCC range of courses for the 2017-18 academic year includes 81 master's degrees, 18 of whom are official, and seven doctoral programmes. In the field of its own continuing education courses, with a strictly professional focus, UVic-UCC presents 52 postgraduate courses and specialisation diplomas, including the new master's degree in Promotion of Physical Activity and Healthy Eating, designed to educate and raise awareness about the importance of sport; and the second edition of the master's degree in Emergency Psychosocial and Humanitarian Care, with the Official College of Social Work, to train professionals in psychosocial interventions, in order to work in crisis situations and scenarios with a heavy emotional impact.
The UManresa range includes the university master's degree in Methodology of simulation applied to training of health and social sciences professionals, the master's degree in Neuroeducation (at both Manresa and Barcelona) and the postgraduate course in Human resources management and development.
Professional University Campus
Under the theme of Professional University Campus, UVic-UCC and UAB will be presenting their range of courses in high level training cycles at the same stand at the Saló de l’Ensenyament. Next year, these cycles will continue to be available in 3D Animation, Interactive Games and Environments and Multi-Platform Application Development, in Vic; Marketing and Advertising, in Granollers; and Processes and Quality in the Food Industry, in Olot. At the same time as the Saló de l’Ensenyament, the registration period for these cycles begins next week for future students to be make sure of their place.
Meanwhile, another edition of the highly technical cycle in Dental Prosthetics taught at Manresa will be presented at the Saló. The extension of the cooperation agreement with the dental implants company Avinent has enabled a further step to be taken in the use of digital tools. Starting next year, students will be able to design dental structures at the Professional Campus facilities, and in cooperation with the company, follow the entire production process of a piece, from the design, to the manufacturing , production and finish.
UVic-UCC celebrates 20th anniversary this year
This academic year marks the 20th anniversary of the University of Vic (today University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia), which was approved unanimously by the Parliament of Catalonia on 21 May 1997. A series of commemorative events have been organised to commemorate this milestone, which will take place throughout the year. One of the greatest achievements of these twenty years has been the federation between the Balmes University Foundation, the institution which owns UVic, and the Bages University Foundation, to create University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia with campuses in Vic and Manresa.
