Biomedicine is a booming field and a pillar for progress in basic, preclinical and clinical research on diseases.
The degree in Biomedicine provides training in the biological bases of diseases, the design of therapies and vaccines, new diagnostic methods and prevention strategies, to be able to work in active and innovative fields such as health and biopharmaceuticals, both in the public and private sectors.
Characteristics of the degree in Biomedicine
Deep knowledge of the functioning of the human body and the general scientific and technological foundations of basic clinical research.
Biomedical research is carried out in collaboration with university research groups, companies, hospitals and research centres.
Practical work is carried out in the development of research tools in the experimental laboratory (biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, cell and tissue culture, use of animal models, etc.) and in the laboratory of transversal techniques (bioinformatics, database management and biomedical data analysis).
This degree is taught at the Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering in collaboration with the Faculty of Health Sciences and Welfare and the Faculty of Medicine.

Information for new students
Students new to the UVic-UCC Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering degrees must have a laptop in order to continue their studies.
Computers are a fundamental tool to be able to follow classes, since they allow you to install the necessary software and to integrate the contents of different subjects.
The University also has a laptop loan service for occasional reservations.
