Objectives

The Final Degree Thesis summarized the training acquired during the course of the degree courses.

It must allow the student to demonstrate the level of acquisition of the skills of the degree and of the principles that will underpin their future professional work.

The TFG for FEC studies can be included in one of these two areas:

  • Professional: design and/or implementation of a project in a professional field.
  • Academic: research projects that include literature review, construction of the theoretical framework, hypothesis, empirical part (if applicable), discussion, results and conclusions.

The academic work consists of writing a report with the following characteristics:

  • The indicative length must be 16,000 words (appendices and bibliography not included), as long as the development of the work does not require another layout, after consultation with the tutor.
  • Written in Catalan, Spanish or English.

Journalism professional work can take two forms:

  1. Case study Consists of:
    • Approach to a practical case (collection of journalistic pieces, business plan, communication plan - internal or external -, etc.).
    • Elaboration of a report. The indicative length must be 16,000 words (appendices and bibliography not included), as long as the development of the work does not require another layout, after consultation with the tutor.
    • Written in Catalan, Spanish or English.
  2. Creation of an audiovisual or non-fiction multimedia product (reports/documentaries, television programs, radio programs, web pages, etc.), according to the requirements set by the tutor in each case.

Learning outcomes

  • Communicate information, ideas, arguments, comments or opinions in an orderly and clear manner to both specialized and non-specialized audiences, considering linguistic, social, cultural and gender diversity.
  • Execute analysis and research methods to identify new information or communication needs, with flexibility and determination to face them in different contexts.
  • Use appropriate knowledge and methods for project planning and development through proper time management, decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Develop the management of the training process itself to be able to undertake further studies with a high degree of autonomy and face with solvency the professional and intellectual challenges generated by the evolution of the field.
  • Practice strategies and techniques of analysis and synthesis to make efficient decisions in research processes, selection and interpretation of data and information.
  • Develop professional or academic tasks and projects in complex environments through effective cooperation in plural teams in face-to-face or virtual environments, and efficient use of digital resources and tools.

Content

The contents depend on the approach of the work carried out.

Evaluation

  • The evaluation of the TFG is individual, that is to say, each student gets a grade that may or may not be the same as the other members of the group.
  • The preparation process, the presentation of the formal work and the public defense before the court are evaluated.
  • The panel is made up of a minimum of 2 professors and/or professionals recognized in the sector, one of whom may be the tutor of the work.
  • In the event that the TFG obtains a rating of 9.0 or more, the court may propose that it be awarded the mention matriculation of honor.
  • For the qualification of each of the parts that make up the evaluation, the court uses the Rubric for the defense of the TFG. This generic document also remains available to the student.
  • The court completes a grade sheet that reports on the grade awarded to each element of the assessment and on the final grade, and includes, where appropriate, the justified honors matriculation proposal. The sheet itself must include a section so that the members of the court, individually, can make the considerations they deem appropriate. All members of the panel must sign the rating sheet.
  • The detection of plagiarism and/or any attempted fraud leads to a suspended qualification.

The TFG is qualified as follows:

  • For the academic and professional work of ADE, CAV, PER and MCE:
    • Preparation and follow-up process: 15% (of which 5% corresponds to the Library's training)
    • Public defense: 25%
    • Memory: 60%
  • For professional work:
    • Memory: 30%
    • Work presented: 30%

Methodology

  • Follow-up tutorials during the period with the assigned tutor.
  • Follow-up pre-courts in the middle of the process.
