Objectives

This subject belongs to the subject Clinical Practice and is part of the specific training for the integration of the knowledge, skills and attitudes of the nursing discipline in professional practice. The practicum is carried out in community care centers.

The subject Practicum VI aims for the student to be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge acquired in the different subjects comprehensively and adapted to each situation that arises.
  • Know the characteristics and structure of the center and adapt to the organization of the unit and its dynamics.
  • Integrate into the work team in the community field in the role of student.
  • Observe and participate in the daily activities of the service, in accordance with the professional code of ethics.
  • Identify the use and indications of the health products and medicines that are used most frequently in the service.
  • Acquire knowledge, skills and aptitudes through practical training in the community field.
  • Establish effective and respectful communication with the user, the family and the work team.
  • Assess, plan and treat people comprehensively, respecting their right to participate in decision-making about their care, under the supervision of a professional.
  • Provide individuals, families and groups with health education appropriate to the situation and needs.
  • Prepare a report of the practical period according to the guidelines of the work plan and the practice guide.
  • Self-assess the degree of achievement of the skills of the practical stay and identify the aspects of updating and improvement that must be strengthened.

Learning outcomes

  • RA1. It organizes personal work in accordance with process planning, adjusts it to decision-making in the intervention context and reorients processes in relation to the evaluation carried out on the performance itself.
  • LO2. Participates and integrates in the organized development of a team work and is able to anticipate tasks, time and resources to achieve the expected results.
  • LO3. It analyzes the data obtained in the assessment of the user to prioritize health problems and designs appropriate interventions or treatments for each situation that respect people's fundamental rights.
  • LO4. Communicates effectively with professionals, users and families with an attitude of respect and empathy, and demonstrates listening skills.
  • LO5. Act appropriately for your own safety and that of the user.
  • LO6. It uses the health products that correspond to the health problem, adapts the form of administration and evaluates its action and possible effects.
  • LO7. Acts in the usual situations and those typical of the profession with commitment, responsibility and in accordance with ethical criteria and respect for individuality.
  • LO8. It designs interventions that meet the needs of the field in a multidisciplinary way.
  • RA9. Plan individualized nursing care centered on the person and their significant environment for each stage of the life cycle.
  • RA10. Communicate knowledge, methodologies, ideas, problems and solutions in the field of health sciences in a clear and precise manner to all types of audiences (specialized or not) in their own language and in English.
  • RA11. Shows sensitivity for fair and equal professional practice from a gender perspective.
  • LO12. Use language that is respectful of gender issues, both in oral and written or audiovisual productions.
  • RA13. It applies strategies for the promotion of gender equality and equity between people in the professional field.

Specific skills

  • Act professionally in accordance with the values of the profession stated in the nursing code of ethics.
  • Apply the theoretical and methodological principles of nursing.
  • Design and promote actions and interventions for risk prevention and health promotion that have an impact on factors affecting health (lifestyles, social and community networks, work environment, etc.), on the basis of implementation and maintenance of preventive and therapeutic behavior.
  • Design outcome-oriented healthcare systems for individuals, families and groups. Assess their impact and establish appropriate changes through dialogue with care receivers and significant others in their context, and the use of appropriate tools and reflective practice.
  • Establish an appropriate therapeutic relationship with care receivers and significant others in their context.
  • Interact with care receivers at each stage of their life cycle, in accordance with their gender, group or community, within their social and multicultural context, respecting their opinions, beliefs, values, privacy and confidentiality, and professional secrecy.
  • Protect the health and welfare of individuals and groups receiving care, ensuring their safety.
  • Work in an interdisciplinary team within an integrated care approach to ensure continuity of care for receivers.

Evaluation

The evaluation of this subject is carried out in accordance with the following activities and weighting criteria:

Evaluation of the clinical skills workshops (compulsory attendance) (25% of the final grade of the subject)

  • Verification of participation and attendance at the workshops: 15% of the final mark of the subject; non recoverable
  • Observation of the simulation and its planning: 10%; non recoverable

Evaluation of external practices (see the Regulations for external practices) (75% of the final grade of the subject)

  • Report of the tutor of the collaborating institution (TEC): 35% of the final mark of the subject; non recoverable (This report must be approved with a minimum grade of 5.)
  • Follow-up by the University's academic tutor (TAU): 10% of the subject's final grade; non recoverable
  • Student self-assessment report: 5% of the subject's final grade; non recoverable
  • Work/internship report: 25% of the subject's final grade; non recoverable

The final mark of the subject is the result of the weighting of the marks obtained in each of the parts, as long as the external practices are approved.
